“Global Eye News is the superb online presence developed out of the Global Eye Magazine. It is written by Worldaware, designed by Actis and funded by the DFID.
Whether a teacher or student in a primary or secondary school, this easy to navigate, geographical website provides an invaluable focus on development issues. Through its concise, informative lead articles and case studies the user may investigate images of the focus issues ‘on camera’ or investigate further through weblinks.
In addition suggested routes for individual or school ‘action’ may help bring the issue alive. Furthermore there are a variety of competitions derived from the Global Eye News articles, from MCQ (multiple choice questions) to DME (decision making exercise) and poster design formats
Global Eye News provides regularly updated content which is targeted well on its audience from Key Stage 2 and 3 to GCSE and AS level geographers. It adds greatly to the value of the magazine which is distributed termly to secondary schools.
By offering a dynamic view of international development pupils are all the more likely to view the issues as of importance to their own lives. By relating closely to Curriculum 2000 themes, such as sustainable development, it offers the teacher invaluable resource materials and activities for enquiry-based learning. There is a place for Global Eye News on the intranet of all geography departments.”
