Music of 2018 – part one

We didn't start the fire

Robert Plant – Carry Fire, 2017 – similar to his recent sound
Moya Brennan – Canvas, 2017 – “First Lady of Celtic Music”
Mike Oldfield – Hergest Ridge, 1974. 2010 mix

I have praised Spotify’s “Discover Weekly” playlist before and I have also found “Release Radar”, based on your own likes, very useful. I found this:
Joe Satriani – What Happens Next, 2018

The 2018 Great British Folk Festival publicity has been arriving even though it is not until December. However, low down the bill I looked up:
New Celeste – A Perfect Sky, 2016 – a long-established outfit from Scotland.

I catch part of this fantastic music programme on Wednesdays in the car but, of course, they are all on the BBC Radio 4 site: “Soul Music – Series about pieces of music with a powerful emotional impact”
One about Kraftwerk’s album “Computer World” was really interesting and emphasises their widespread influence. There is one about ‘Hallelujah’ and its myriad of covers.

Django Django – Marble Skies, 2018 – via Bob Digby
Mary Gauthier – Rifles and Rosary Beeds, 2018 – ‘i’ album of the week
Peita Brow – Paradise Outlaw, 2014 – from Discover Weekly
Baxter Dury – Prince of Tears, 2017 – sweary, NSFW, via Stuart Maconie in Waitrose paper!
Jimi Hendrix – Prince of Tears, 2017
Jimi Hendrix – Machine Gun, Live at Fillmore East 31/12/69 first show (released 2016)
Jimi Hendrix – Freedom: Atlanta Pop Festival (Live) (released 2014)
Trembling Bells – Dungeness, 2018
Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman – Personae, 2018 – via BBC Folk Show

Billy Joel – We Didn’t Start the Fire on Spotify
Found on Twitter:

There are few songs where the lines are harder to remember (or even understand) than for “We didn’t start the fire”. This chart helped me to finally get the song. Amazing piece of work. Impossible to read the lines without breaking into song. Source:

One item missing “Bay of Pigs invasion” (or is it “Beijing”) at the end of first line verse four.

What should be included in any extra verses through the 90s or 00s?
