Music of 2017 – part six

Tom Robinson Band - Power in the DarknessRoger Waters – Is This The Life We Really Want? 2017
Vin Garbutt – Persona… Grata, 2005 – RIP, Teessider
Vin Garbutt – Little Innocents, 2015

Lindsey Buckingham / Christine McVie – Lindsey Buckingham / Christine McVie, 2017 – Love this. It’s a Fleetwood Mac album but without the Stevie Nicks songs. In other words, it draws on a familiar well and that’s OK with me.

London Grammar – Truth is a Beautiful Thing, 2017 – “i” reviewer says it offers little advance on the debut album. Why break with a winning formula?

Having kept her stuff off Spotify, This is: Taylor Swift is a 30 song playlist. I enjoyed it more than I should, probably. I like a female voice but the teenage themes are not intended for my age group!

Radio Two Folk Awards Playlist, 2016

Spotify Discover Weekly led me to this track, The Bluest Blues,  by Alvin Lee which appears on
Alvin Lee – The Anthology, 2002 – 24 tracks, 2 hours of class blues-rock. And this it what he did to pursue a different sound…
Alvin Lee and Mylon Le Ferre – On the Road to Freedom, 1973

The Beatles – Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (deluxe edition), 1967 – the sparse ‘first-takes’ are fascinating.

Glastonbury was a great disappointment. I usually just omit to mention stuff I don’t like but I have three Radiohead CDs and listened to a playlist in advance of Glasto and found it execrable. Barry Gibb, not in a million years will I forgive that 70s disco-shite.

A couple of Wealden road-trips, to golf courses, instigated a few CD-plays:
Dougie Maclean – Who am I, 2001
Dougie Maclean – Resolution, 2010

Offa Rex – The Queen of Hearts, 2017
Haim – Something to Tell You, 2017

Public Service Broadcasting – Every Valley, 2017 – h/t & some time ago. Good while gardening! ♫
I was then directed by@dukkhaboy to “Songs that inspired Every Valley” playlist.

The Housemartins – Live at The BBC, 1985/6 – inspired by a tweet by
The Housemartins – Now That’s What I Call Quite Good, 1988

Tom Robinson Band – POWER IN THE DARKNESS, 1978 is on . TRB performing it live on tour in October. See
