Orlando, Florida, USA
It had taken Angus fifteen years to persuade Marg to go to America. His time in New York included a stay in Lake Wales, Florida and visit to Disnyworld in 1973 as recorded in Altantic Airmail. Once there, we visited EPCOT, MGM Studios, Sea World and, of course, we found our inner-child in the Magic Kingdom where we ‘stood in line’ with families with young children to get a signature from Mini Mouse.
We went to the Kennedy Space Centre and layer stood on Cocoa Beach in anticipation of a night-time shuttle launch which was aborted with nine seconds to spare. Our disappointment was softened by seeing newly hatched turtles on the beach heading out to the sea.
It was a two centre holiday and we went on to stay at Hotel Cesar, St Pete Beach on the Gulf of Mexico near St Petersburg. One driving-song set the soundtrack to the I4 journey and takes us back whenever we hear it: Alannah Miles ‘Black Velvet’ (Alannah Miles, 1989) [Spotify link]
We loved our holiday in the United States so much we went back, later in the year, to Los Angeles, California, Las Vegas, Nevada and Grand Canyon, Arizona.
